The phrase "you can't take it with you" is generally in reference to the day we kick the bucket. But not today. Today we're talking about portable windows applications that you CAN take with you - anywhere you go.
Every Windows PC user knows the drill of installing software on their computer. Many homes today have more than one computer. Many people also deal with another computer at work. What if you could take your favorite web browser or email client from work to home and back to work with you? What if you could carry frequently used software applications with you everywhere you go? Now imagine not having to install that software on every computer you use.
Well, you CAN take it with you. PortableApps.com has been doing it for quite some time. All you need is a portable zip, thumb or hard drive. The number of applications you can take with you is constantly growing. For example, I take my nerdy Notepad++ with me everywhere along with my Thunderbird email client, Firefox 3, OpenOffice, a password keeper and more.
The price, you ask? Nothing, free, zilch. It will cost you the time to download the Portable Apps program and install it on a removable hard drive. Did I mention I also take a Texas Hold'em Poker game with me as well?
The helpfulness of Portable Apps is incredible for me, helping me work, play and play some more. I encourage you to go check it out.
